Our students participated in the 5th session (of 10) of the Financial Education workshop, led by our valued allies at CDC Mexico.
In this session, the young women immersed themselves in the fascinating world of Responsible Consumption. Through engaging activities—such as collaboratively drawing everything they would buy if they had unlimited money, and then analyzing those dreams using Maslow’s Pyramid—they reflected on a vital question: What drives us to spend? They realized that we are all consumers, but that we often buy under the influence of social, cultural, or advertising pressures, confusing wants with needs.
They also put their powers of persuasion into practice by selling products to one another and internalized two financial concepts that can change their lives:
Cost-Benefit: Evaluate whether what we pay is truly worth what we receive.
Opportunity Cost: Recognize that choosing one option always means giving up another. Every peso spent today on an impulsive desire is a peso that is not invested in a future goal!
Why is this so important for their development?
The culture of consumerism and instant gratification often perpetuates inequality, pushing people into debt due to social pressure. Providing our young women with these financial tools is an act of profound empowerment.
In their present, this awareness enables them to manage their resources and time with excellence. In their future, as leaders and professionals, these skills will be the shield that protects them from debt traps and the foundation on which they will build solid assets, economic independence, and true freedom.
They are taking control of their financial story! Thank you, CDC Mexico, for sharing both your expertise and your heart with our students.
