Today, we celebrate the incredible talent and leadership of our student, Yesenia! Yesi, who is studying Environmental Engineering, fills us with pride after winning first place in the poster contest at the National Congress of STEM Women in Puebla. This is a tremendous recognition of her dedication and the quality of her work! The good news doesn’t stop there.
Yesenia was also selected to participate in the International Winter School in Medellín, Colombia, a program designed to train young entrepreneurs capable of driving social and environmental transformation in their communities with innovative and sustainable solutions. This achievement aligns perfectly with her passion and career goals. Yesi, you are a shining example of resilience, perseverance, and leadership.
We are extremely proud of you and all that you have accomplished. You inspire us, and we are confident that you will represent the women of Mexico proudly in Colombia. Congratulations, Yesenia!
Here’s Yesenia’s testimony: “Today, I want to share something that fills me with pride. Once again, we show that women are a source of change and inspiration, and that we can actively participate in science. Today, together with my team, we won first place in the Poster Contest of the 1st National Congress of Women in STEM in Puebla.
We presented our project: ‘Synthesis of a biodegradable polymer based on seeds (tamarind-mesquite) and mucilage (nopal-algae) for use in packaging.’ This project, developed at the Technological University of Querétaro, aims to create a biodegradable and environmentally friendly material. The idea is to utilize natural ingredients such as seeds and mucilage to form a biodegradable polymer that can replace plastic in everyday packaging.
Although plastic is useful, it takes many years to degrade and pollutes the soil, rivers, and air. With our proposal, we seek to reduce these impacts and generate sustainable alternatives. Additionally, this opportunity allowed me to explore another state, enriching my perspective of the world. I am thrilled to have won and to represent all the women who are committed to science in caring for our planet.”
